LimeBike Free Rides Codes: El Cerrito Launch Jan. 30

You'll see 100 LimeBikes zipping around El Cerrito starting this month.

EL CERRITO, CA — On Tuesday January 30th, the dock-less bike sharing company LimeBike will be launching in El Cerrito.

LimeBike, which will also be operating in nearby Albany, will bring 100 bicycles to El Cerrito’s streets for
a six-month pilot program. The bicycles will provide El Cerrito residents, businesses, and visitors with an
affordable, reliable, and sustainable option for travelling throughout El Cerrito and Albany.

“LimeBike will provide an affordable transportation option to help people get around El Cerrito, while
also reducing their carbon footprint,” said Mayor Gabriel Quinto. “The bike sharing program will make it
easier for passengers to get from their starting point to nearby bus and BART stations, ultimately making
it easier to complete trips while using public transportation”.

The City of El Cerrito’s City Council has guided staff to pursue alternative transportation modes to
increase bike ridership, as supported by the City’s Climate Action Plan, Active Transportation Plan, and
the City’s 2015-2020 Strategic Plan. A primary goal of the City is to reduce vehicle miles traveled by
creating a well connected, pedestrian-friendly, bicycle and transit-oriented urban environment that will
make it easier for residents and visitors to leave their car behind. LimeBike’s dock-less bike share
program is consistent with this goal and vision.

LimeBike is able to offer this service to residents at no cost to the City. This differs from traditional dockbased
bike sharing programs which can require significant investments in docking infrastructure.

LimeBike’s rides cost just $1.00 for 30 minutes, or 50 cents for students. Low-income residents will be
able to ride up to 100 rides per month for just $5. Everyone under 18 is required by law to wear a
helmet and adults are encouraged to bring their own helmets.

To ride a LimeBike, users can simply download the iPhone or Android smartphone app to find a bike
nearby, unlock the bike by scanning or entering the bike's plate number, and then go for a ride. When
finished, they just lock the bike's back wheel to complete the trip. Cyclists are asked to park responsibly,
leaving the LimeBike near a bike rack or on the side of the sidewalk as to not block pedestrian traffic.

rides for free.

"We are thrilled to expand our presence in the East Bay with our El Cerrito launch”, said Megan Colford,
LimeBike Bay Area Operations Manager. “The El Cerrito community will now be able to rely on LimeBike
as their sustainable, convenient transportation option. We anticipate a successful program in El Cerrito,
especially with rides along the Ohlone Greenway and the Bay”.
