Yes, it’s Harold Lloyd, who along with Charley Chaplin and Buster Keaton, was one of the kings of silent comedy. His most famous movie, “Safety Last” is celebrating its 90th birthday at the Cerrito Theater on Thursday, November 14, and you’re invited. You’ll be riveted as Lloyd, in his trademark straw hat, round glasses, and befuddled look climbs up, up, and up, with an atmospheric piano accompaniment.

Born in 1893, Lloyd began as an extra and met another extra named Hal Roach, later to become the creator of “Our Gang” comedies. Roach was fast rising in the movie world and gave Lloyd his start.
Lloyd was extremely hard-working and did most of his own stunts. The moviemaking world could also be dangerous; Lloyd suffered a serious injury on the set of one early movie.
