County Forms New Racial Justice Oversight Body

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants to fill seven seats on the new Racial Justice Oversight Body, which is being established in response to recommendations received from the Racial Justice Task Force in July.

In total, the oversight body will be comprised of 18 individuals working to reduce disparities in the criminal and juvenile justice systems and monitor the implementation of recommendations aimed at accomplishing that goal.

The Board of Supervisors is seeking two individuals who have been involved in the criminal or youth justice systems, one representative from a faith-based organization, three individuals from community-based
organizations including one that works with justice-involved youth, and one individual who is either a school-aged youth or a person who works with a community-based organization providing services for school-aged youth.

The oversight body will also include personnel from a variety of law enforcement organizations, education, probation and the courts.

Applicants will initially be interviewed by Supervisors John Gioia and Federal Glover before their applications are forwarded to the full board for review. Appointments are for a two-year term.

Applications are available online and due by 5 p.m. Nov. 2.
