Craigslist Buyers Lured, Robbed at Gunpoint

In the wake of several recent armed robberies of people responding to for-sale ads on Craigslist, the Oakland Police Department is warning the public to be cautious in responding to Craigslist ads.

Oakland police are investigating several Craigslist ads claiming to sell high-end goods to lure victims to meet and have resulted in several armed robberies in recent weeks.

Ads featuring vehicles and electronics are being posted for sale on Craigslist in Oakland and when the victim arrives at the designated meeting location, they are robbed at gunpoint.

The suspects have been described Caucasian, Hispanic and African-American males.

Police urge the public to practice caution when attempting to buy items off of Craigslist.

Police suggest not agreeing to meet in a secluded or residential neighborhood, as well-populated and highly trafficked areas are likely to be safer. Buyers on Craigslist are also advised not to travel to any location with a large amount of cash.
