Diversity, Race and Cultural Competency with Madeleine Rogin -- Montessori Family School Preparation For Life Speaker Series. Janaury 21 from 7-9pm
In the wake of Ferguson and Staten Island, how can we create a fruitful discussion with children about diversity? Race? Injustice?
As a white teacher of young children, and mother to two bi-racial daughters, Madeleine Rogin realized a few years ago that she was unable to communicate effectively the work of the Civil Rights Movement, due to her own discomfort talking openly about race and racism with her students.
In her talk, Ms. Rogin will look at the problems that can arise when we don’t address difference and racism in the classroom or around the dinner table, why recognition of an open discussion about racism is so important, and how parents can open up dialogue with their children.
