El Cerrito Middle School Students Win International Clean Energy Design Competition

A team of middle school students from El Cerrito has earned top-honors in the 2026 World KidWind Challenge!

Team Turbine from Prospect Sierra in El Cerrito was a winner in the Middle School Wind Turbine Design Challenge.

The international competition tests student teams on their clean energy knowledge and on the performance of the wind turbines or solar homes they designed. The team was among 125 teams (550+ students) from 21 U.S. states, Estonia, Taiwan, and Thailand to compete in the event, which took place May 17-20, 2026 in Madison, Wisconsin.

“The teams who competed at the 2026 World KidWind Challenge represent the future of clean energy! We were incredibly impressed by the knowledge, teamwork, presentation skills, and designs showcased here in Madison,” said Michael Arquin, founder of KidWind. “The KidWind Challenge engages students, helps them learn STEM skills, and prepares them for future careers in clean energy.
