El Cerrito Police Arrest Man on Suspicion of Committing Two Residential Burglaries

Officers arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of burglarizing at least two homes in El Cerrito on Tuesday, police said today.
Police arrested Joshua Marshall, who is transient, after officers found him in possession of several items belonging to at least two people, according to police. Officers responded around 4:30 p.m. to a residential burglary alarm that was activated at a home in the 1600 block of Julian Drive and arrived to find one of the doors broken, police said.
A short time later, at 5:11 p.m., officers received a report of a suspicious man who was in a resident’s backyard and was going into other yards in the 1300 block of Contra Costa Drive, police said. Officers located a man -- later identified by police as Marshall -- matching the suspect’s description in the 1400 block of Navellier Street.

He consented to a search and police said officers located laptops and credit cards belonging to the resident on Julian Drive. The victim identified the property as stolen and officers took Marshall into custody, police said. At 6:18 p.m., officers received a report of a burglary at a home in the 1300 block of Contra Costa Drive and police said Marshall was found to be in possession of property stolen from that house as well. He was arrested and booked in county jail, police said.
