The UUCB Luminescence Chorus and the Masterworks Chorale of San Mateo join the Kensington Symphony Orchestra for a sumptuous and energetic evening of great choral/orchestral repertoire from the Romantic period.
The program will begin with the Vespers of Rachmaninoff, a rich tapestry of sound in two movements. This will be followed by the colorful, brilliant and celebratory Te Deum by Dvorak, featuring soloists Fatinah Tilfah, soprano and Jason Detwiler, baritone all under the direction of Bryan Baker.
After intermission, KSO Music Director and Conductor, Geoffrey Gallegos will lead the forces in the lyrically sublime and dramatically moving Schicksalslied ("Song of Destiny") by Johannes Brahms. Dr. Baker and Maestro Gallegos will then team up in Beethoven's Choral Fantasia Op. 80 in C minor for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra with Dr. Baker at the keyboard. This precursor to the master's Ninth Symphony Finale will joyously conclude the concert and the 2010-'11 seasons of the KSO and UUCB choirs.
