Race to Nowhere Screening at Prospect Sierra School

RACE TO NOWHERE examines the unintended consequences of the achievement-obsessed way of life that permeates American education and culture. It's a call to families, educators, experts, and policy makers to examine current assumptions on how to prepare our national youth to become the healthy, bright, contributing, and leading citizens of the next century.

Director Vicki Abeles, a mother of three and former corporate attorney, found herself questioning the changes she saw in her children as they navigated days filled with school, homework, tutoring, and extracurricular activities. Vicki set out to discover why children's lives more closely resemble high-powered CEOs' than the relaxed, carefree lives of children from the past.

"The film...should be required viewing for every parent, teacher, and school policy maker. It makes it very clear that adolescent stress is a serious problem that must be faced and dealt with." — Mark Phillips, Marin Voice

This screening is open to the public. A facilitated discussion will follow the film, led by Head of School, Katherine Dinh, and school psychologist, Rick Ferm, Ph.D.
