This international Coastal Clean-up event has happened all over the world for the past 26 years. This is the largest research project in the world.
During the clean-up , participants are asked to collect data about the type of trash they are collecting. ( 80% of the trash comes from off our streets) the data that is collected, gets sent to the Coastal Conservancy where they change laws to inhibit marine pollution. Plastics in the oceanic gyres is of utmost concern now.
This years theme is "Bring your own Bucket and gloves" so we don't contribute more plastic to the plastic removal process we are attempting to do along the shoreline. Wear sturdy shoes, windbreaker, hat and sunscreen, bring your own reusable bottled water, gloves and buckets. ( If you don't have gloves we will provide those and plastic bags if necessary) Rakes or hand tools are handy. Beach areas as well as locations around the bulb.
