Shotgun Players, one of the most innovative theater companies in the Bay Area, is putting on Assassins, with music by Stephen Sondheim. "Sondheim lays bare our nine presidential assassins--drawing back the curtain on a group of American men and women who took action against a government they thought was betraying the people," says their brochure. A timely tale. What are the limits to civil disobedience?
We will watch the play and then convene for behind-the-scenes insights and discussion (with an actor or director if we get a large enough group by September 21st).

Lynn Hammond, Ph.D., wanted to be an actress when she grew up but upon reflection decided to pursue the infinitely more secure profession of teaching English. She has taught theater appreciation at colleges in the Bay Area in collaboration with Shotgun Players, Berkeley Rep, Aurora Theater, and Marin Shakespeare and is interested in theater as art and as catalyst for change.
