Father Poulin Explains His Method of Painting in Acrylic

Local artist Father Arthur Poulin, a Camaldolese monk and priest who paints in acrylic, will share his distinctive method.

Father Poulin will explain his method of painting in acrylic at the El Cerrito Art Association meeting at 7:00 pm on August 8 in the Garden Room of the El Cerrito Community Center.

Local artist Father Arthur Poulin, a Camaldolese monk and priest who paints in acrylic, will share his distinctive method (which begins with many layers of black gesso), through a short video and discussion of his contemplative process with several of his images. Inspired by the Impressionists, he has developed a unique style to reflect the beauty, harmony, and unity of creation, which he celebrates and shares as valuable and necessary.

Father Poulin’s work is in many local and international collections, and was shown at the I. Wolk Gallery in St Helena from 2006 to 2012. He exhibits at the Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa, and also offers retreats and presentations on the spirituality of creativity and the creative process.

Father Poulin holds a Fine Arts degree from Loyola University. The art critic Sister Wendy Beckett states his work "is intense and strong, with a pure clear inner radiance that is a silent witness to [his]vocation".

His work is widely published as cards, book covers, magazines, and journals, some of which will be available at the evening program.
