Four Former Cal Players To Play For Super Bowl Trip

No matter who wins Sunday, Cal will be represented in the Super Bowl.

Four former Cal football players – Marshawn Lynch (Seattle), Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay), Richard Rodgers (Green Bay) and Shane Vereen (New England) – are on active rosters of NFL teams that have moved on to conference championship games in the NFL Playoffs next Sunday, January 18. The winning teams of next Sunday’s contests will advance to Super Bowl XLVIII on February 1 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

Aaron and Richard Rodgers will travel with No. 2 NFC seed Green Bay to face Lynch’s top-seeded Seattle in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday at 12:05 pm PT (FOX). Vereen and his top-seeded Patriots will host No. 4 AFC seed Indianapolis in the AFC Championship next at 3:40 pm PT (CBS).

Aaron and Richard Rodgers connected on the game-winning touchdown Sunday on a 13-yard scoring play in the fourth quarter of the Packers’ 26-21 victory over Dallas in an NFL Playoffs Divisional Round victory in Green Bay. Aaron completed 24-of-35 passes with three touchdowns and no interceptions despite playing with an injured left calf.

Lynch and Vereen punched their tickets to conference championship games Saturday also during NFL Playoffs Divisional Round action. Lynch rushed for 59 yards on 14 carries and added another six yards on three receptions in the Seahawks 31-17 win over Carolina, while Vereen contributed four catches for 49 yards and one rush for six yards in New England’s 35-31 victory over Baltimore.
