Free After-School Meals For Kids Under 18 Served At Area Library

The program in San Pablo is sponsored in part by the West Contra Costa Unified School District. (Breaking)

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – After-school meals will be served at San Pablo Library until school gets out this June, a spokeswoman for the Contra Costa County Library said.

Meals will be served from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until June 7 at the library at 2300 El Portal Drive.

The meals are part of an effort to give kids good nutrition, stay safe and continue learning.

Library system spokeswoman Brooke Converse said San Pablo Library is the first library in the system to try this. It's similar to the Lunch at the Library program during the summer months.

This summer, though, San Pablo Library won't be serving lunches because a new library is opening and the current one closing.

The meals this spring are for anyone under 18 years old.

Besides food, librarians will be offering free activities such as arts and crafts, board games and Legos.

The meal program is in collaboration with the California Summer Meal Coalition and the West Contra Costa Unified School District.

"This program provides an additional service to the neediest members of our community," San Pablo Library Manager Gia Paolini said in a statement.
