Come and hear guest speaker, Richard Bartke, President of the El Cerrito Historical Society, who will give us an interesting overview of the History of the City of El Cerrito, as it celebrates the Centennial Anniversary of its founding. The American Association of University Women West Contra Costa Branch meets at the Christ Lutheran Church, 780 Ashbury Avenue. El Cerrito on Saturday Oct 21st. The meeting begins with refreshments at 10 am, followed by a short business meeting . At about 10:30, Mr. Bartke will give us an outline of the city’s general history and will describe some of the more interesting people who have lived here and some exciting events that occurred over the course of 100 years. Free. Everyone welcome.
Mr. Bartke is a former Councilman and Mayor of El Cerrito and a lifelong resident of Contra Costa County. He graduated from UC Berkeley, where he was the captain of the Varsity Rowing team for two years. After
working for several years as a Probation Correction Officer/Court Officer, he went to the University of San Francisco, where he earned a Juris Doctorate. He then practiced family law for 40 years in West Contra Costa County. He served as a volunteer in numerous Boards and Commissions of the County and the City. He and Jane, AAUW-WCC member, have been married for almost 55 year and they have 2 daughters, who are WCCUSD School teachers.
