Rev Heng Sure will give a seminar on "Guarding the Candle in a High Wind: Sources of Hope" on Oct 22 at 9:30 am in the Fireside Room of UUCB

Dharma Master Rev Dr. Heng Sure, an ordained Buddhist monk, will give a seminar on “Guarding the Candle in a High Wind: Sources of Hope” on Oct. 22 at 9:30 am in the Fireside Room of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley (UUCB), 1 Lawson Road (above the Arlington at Moeser, through Terrace and Craft), Kensington, CA. 94707.

For the sake of world peace, Rev Heng Sure and Heng Ch'au (Dr. Martin Verhoeven) undertook an over six hundred mile pilgrimage from South Pasadena to Ukiah, repeatedly taking three steps and one bow to cover the entire journey. In the entire two years taken to make the pilgrimage, they observed a practice of total silence.

Rev. Heng Sure has an M.A. in Oriental Languages from UC Berkeley, and a Ph.D. from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley and another Ph.D. from UCB. He serves as the Managing Director of the Berkeley Buddhist Monastery and teaches on the staff at the Institute for World Religions. He lectures on the Avatamsaka Sutra at the Berkeley Monastery every Saturday evening. He is also a teacher at Pacific School of Religion, a musician, singer-songwiter, storyteller and youth-leader. He is actively involved in interfaith dialogue and in the ongoing conversation between spirituality and technology.
