Free Story Hour on Sept 11 at 9:30 am … “Harvesting the Stories of our lives” by Joel Ben Izzy from Berkeley

Renowned storyteller and recording artist Joel Ben Izzy at 9:30 am in the Fireside Room, Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley. Free.

Joel ben Izzy is an award-winning storyteller, recording artist, author, and story consultant. Since graduating from Stanford in1983, he has performed and led workshops in more than 35 countries. His six CDs of stories have won awards from such organizations as the American Library Association, Booklist magazine, and the Parents’ Choice Foundation. He is the author of an acclaimed memoir, "The Beggar King and the Secret of
Happiness," in which he tells a mesmerizing story about his thyroid cancer, his inability to speak after surgery, and his journey overcoming most of the obstacles.

In “Harvesting the Stories of our lives,” Joel will be sharing some stories about Rwanda, where he spent over a month last year, as well as stories particularly suited to the arrival of Fall, helping us think about how to reap and hold the tales from our own lives. Joel will also be celebrating the arrival of his new book, "Dreidels on the Brain," and may have an advance copy to share. And, as always, he'll be sharing stories exploring just how it is that curses become blessings - as befits a gathering on this date.

Please join us at 9:30 am, Sept 11 in the Fireside Room of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley, 1 Lawson Road (above the Arlington at Moeser), Kensington 94707. The event is free, but donations are always welcome.
