Graduate of El Cerrito High School Wins Full Technology Education Scholarship from Uber

Diana Marie Lee, an '82 graduate of El Cerrito H.S., has been awarded a full technology scholarship that was funded by Uber South Florida.

Diana Marie Lee, a 1982 graduate of El Cerrito High School, has been awarded a full scholarship to Ironhack, the #1 student-rated full curriculum coding and web development bootcamp in Miami. The scholarship was funded by Uber South Florida, and Lee was one of three full scholarship winners out of over 1,000 applicants.

“I learned about the scholarship opportunity directly from Uber when they shared information about it with their drivers and riders,” says Lee, who moved to Miami almost four years ago. “After getting the details about Ironhack’s unique education programs, I was inspired, and decided to apply. I’m excited about the opportunity to gain proficiency in user-oriented design and become a better digital thinker and problem solver.”

Lee will be learning UX design (user experience design) and UI design (user interface design) at Ironhack. She’ll then seek to implement her knowledge at her company Sweet Livity LLC, which provides a range of wellness services for individuals and organizations in the areas of self-care (stress management and well-being), community care (conflict resolution and reducing workplace discrimination), and business care (increasing corporate sustainability and generating equitable economic development in vulnerable communities).

Lee attended San Francisco State University and majored in Health Science/Community Health Education. Her career includes an extensive background in community health, including positions at the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center of Northern California, as the Founder and Executive Director of the Sickle Cell Community Health Network of Northern California, and as Vice-President of the National Community Development Institute in Oakland, CA. She has also worked with non-profit organizations in Belize, Central America, and Kingston, Jamaica.

“Learning and applying the UX/UI design skills that I gain from Ironhack will help me to better serve my clients, and more accurately identify and solve any business challenges that arise,” says Lee. "My vision is to bridge the gap between good design, technology, and social justice so I'll be a more effective healer, activist, and business owner in 2017 and beyond."
