Her Wakeup Time Is Former Bedtime – 4:30 A.M.

Ditching her partying lifestyle, Jennifer Lynch has dedicated her life to pursuing fitness, working part-time at The Fuse Fitness in Kensington and as an independent personal trainer and group fitness instructor.

You work at The Fuse in Kensington—where else do you work? I'm a personal trainer and a group fitness instructor. I work at , I also work for myself as a trainer and I work at a restaurant part-time, just until I can get into fitness full-time.

When did you start pursuing fitness? I’ve always been a big gym buff and an athlete, but the social lifestyle and atmosphere of the restaurant business got the better of me for a while. A couple of years ago I decided that I needed to make a few changes. I decided to get certified for things I was already participating in, and try to direct my enthusiasm in that direction in a healthy way instead of imbibing and smoking and eating bad foods and staying up all night—now I get up at 4:30 instead of going to bed at 4:30 (laughs).

Do you work in Kensington primarily? I live in Oakland by Lake Merrit. I see clients at local parks in Kensington, Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda, Piedmont, Montclair, pretty much anywhere around the East Bay Area, but not really through the tunnel just yet.

What do you think of Kensington, working here? I love it. I actually had never been here until this studio opened last summer. I think it’s really nice. All of the people whom I’ve met through the studio are super nice and friendly, and most of them are neighborhood people, even the kids across the street at the coffee shop are really nice.

I’ve been a server off and on for the better part of twenty-five years, so I’m really focusing on getting out of that completely this year. Really, all I need to do that is a few more full-time training clients. I do go to people’s homes, so there’s that option as well, mostly to make it more comfortable for them, especially if time is an issue, otherwise I meet people at local parks—anywhere from Pt. Isabel to the Marina to something around the corner from their house.
