Liquor-Store Worker Shot In Armed Hold-Up In El Cerrito

EL CERRITO – A clerk of an El Cerrito liquor store was shot Friday night as the store was robbed by two suspects who remain at large, police said.

At about 8:30 p.m. officers went to Atlas Liquor at 11382 San Pablo Ave. Police said that when officers got there they found the clerk, a 49-year-old man, with a gunshot wound to his lower body.

He was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Police said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

"The suspects fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash," the El Cerrito Police Department said.

One suspect is described as a black man, about 6 feet tall with a thin build. Police said he was wearing a light-colored sweat suit.The other suspect is described as black man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build. Police said he was wearing a dark jacket and white jeans.

The suspects may have arrived at the store in a black, newer model, four-door sedan.
