Lively 61st Annual Bazaar at Sycamore Church
Music, food, games and sales reflect church's mission of celebrating Japanese culture and traditions at the same time it embraces a diverse congregation.
Parking was at a premium, taiko drums pounded, and the smell of teriyaki chicken on the grill filled the air Sunday as the neighborhood just north of Portola Middle School was transformed by the 61st annual bazaar held by on Navellier Street.
The food, entertainment and activities at the popular annual fair, which packs the church property with members of the congregation, friends and neighbors, reflects the church’s history of both celebrating Japanese culture and welcoming a diverse congregation.
The church was founded in 1904 by three Japanese students and offers worship in Japanese and English.

The fair offered a jump house and carnival games for children, live music including the Wesley Ukulele Band and Heiwa Taiko, plants and baked goods for sale, a silent auction, and food ranging from udon to root beer floats.
