Man, 42, Shot by Richmond Homeowner Dies in Hospital

A possible burglary suspect shot by a Richmond homeowner on Saturday evening died in a hospital the next day, a police sergeant said today. Terrell Ruben, 42, of Richmond, was shot by the homeowner in the area of 43rd Street and Roosevelt Avenue at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

The homeowner told investigators that he confronted Ruben while he was stealing items in his house or yard and shot him. Officers responded and found Ruben suffering from a gunshot to the upper torso. He was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he died Sunday, police said. A possible second suspect fled the area, police said.

Abetkov said investigators are still interviewing witnesses and the homeowner. She said the homeowner has not been arrested for the shooting as of this morning but could still face charges. Police said that he has been cooperative in the investigation. Investigators have released no description of the possible second suspect, who remains at large, police said.
