Margaret Keelan Presents Her Ceramic Sculpture
Margaret Keelan will present a lecture and images of her unique figurative creations, which are inspired by folk art and "Santos" figures.

At the El Cerrito Art Association meeting at 7:00 pm on March 14 in the El Cerrito Community Center, East Bay ceramic artist Margaret Keelan, will present a lecture and images on her unique figurative creations. Works over the past few years involve layers of glazes, stains and multiple firings, which create a compelling texture of weathered painted wood on their essential forms. Her current stylized images are inspired by American folk art, “Santos” figures from South and Central America, and utilize molds of 19th and early 20th dolls with other folk art images for expressive metaphors of life and contemplation.
She received her BFA at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and her MFA at the University of Utah, and now teaches full time in the School of Fine Art Sculpture at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Margaret’s work has been featured in several publications, most recently the article “Dark Histories” in Sculpture Review. She won a purchase award at the NCECA National Biennial Exhibition in 2009.
