Maserati Driver Fights Off Attempted Carjacker

It happened at a supermarket just up the street from the police department.

EL CERRITO, CA — Investigators are looking for a suspect who attempted to carjack the driver of a Maserati in El Cerrito Saturday night, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to a grocery store parking lot in the 11400 block of San Pablo Avenue at 10:25 p.m.

The victim said that a suspect approached the driver's side door of the Maserati and started asking questions about the car before punching the driver in the head and ordering him out of the vehicle.

The driver refused and shut the door. The carjacking attempt was unsuccessful, according to police.

The suspect was described as a black man with a thin build in a white hooded sweater with a large tiger face on the front. He was also wearing tan pants, gray shoes and carrying a neon yellow backpack, according to police.

He was last seen heading west on foot towards San Pablo Avenue.
