Michael Reardon Demonstrates Watercolor Techniques

Michael Reardon will demonstrate watercolor techniques and sign copies of his new book at the monthly El Cerrito Art Association meeting at 7:00 on April 11 at the El Cerrito Community Center. Michael is a watercolor artist and author of Watercolor Techniques: Painting Light and Color in Landscapes and Cityscapes, just released from North Light Books. Originally trained as an architect at UC Berkeley, and enjoying a career in architectural illustration spanning 30 years, he uses the medium to record observations, convey a sense of place and light, and to communicate his impressions of the natural, constructed, and imagined worlds. He is sought after as a workshop instructor focusing on the use of light and color.

His awards include the Hugh Ferriss Memorial Prize in 2004, the premier award in the field of architectural illustration, and the prestigious Gabriel Prize from the Western European Architecture Foundation in 2005, which enabled him to spend three months painting in Paris. Signature memberships include the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, and the California Watercolor Association. His watercolors have been exhibited nationally and internationally, including a solo show at the Thomas Reynolds Gallery in San Francisco in 2011, and featured in American Artist Watercolor, the Artist’s Magazine, Southwest Art, Watercolor Artist, Plein Air, and L’Art de l’Aquarelle, among others.

The April 11 meeting will be held in the Garden Room of the El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane, El Cerrito. The evening begins at 7:00 pm with social time and a “mini art show” of members’ work. A brief business meeting is held at 7:30, followed by the speaker.

El Cerrito Art Association meetings are open to the public, and visitors and new members are always welcome.
