More Than 1,000 Local Students Receive Diplomas

The move will boost graduation rates locally.

EL CERRITO CA - More than 1,000 students who received a West Contra Costa Unified School District certificate of completion since 2004 are now eligible for their diplomas, thanks to Senate Bill 172, which suspended the California High School Exit Exam for three years and removed passage of the test as a condition of graduation.

To give those students the same privilege of participating in a graduation ceremony as their classmates enjoyed, the district will held a ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 30. Around 100 former students participated at Richmond Memorial Auditorium.

The move will boost graduation rates locally and across the state.
