Motorist Evaded Police, Skipped DUI Checkpoint New Year's Day
Police said the vehicle had an expired registration and sped away when officers tried to initiate a traffic stop.

A motorist evaded police and skipped a DUI checkpoint in the early morning of New Year’s Day in El Cerrito, police said today. At 1:24 a.m. on Friday, El Cerrito police said a vehicle was seen driving at a high rate of speed on westbound Cutting Boulevard near Peerless Avenue.
The officer who saw the vehicle, a white two-door Lexus, caught up to it as it continued traveling on Cutting Boulevard near South 41st Street, according to police. Police said the vehicle, which the officer discovered had an expired registration, failed to stop at a DUI checkpoint there.
A traffic stop was then attempted along Cutting Boulevard at South 39th Street, but the vehicle sped away, police said. The pursuit was cancelled on Carlson Boulevard near South 23rd Street, police said. No further details were immediately available.
