One Person Critically Wounded in Shooting; Suspect at Large

The shooting occurred in the area of Marina Way and Barrett Avenue just after 5 p.m., according to police officials.

One person was critically injured in a shooting in Richmond this evening, according to police. Police were alerted to the shooting by a Shotspotter activation recording four shots fired in the area of Marina Way and Barrett Avenue just after 5 p.m., according to Sgt. Nicole Abetkov.

Officers responding to the area were flagged down by a witness, who reported that a shooting victim, described only as a black male, had been taken to the Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center by an unknown person, Abetkov said. The victim, a 24-year-old Richmond man, was found there with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was flown by air ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek in critical condition, Abetkov said.

A suspect was seen running north from the scene of the shooting, but was described only as a black male wearing a white t-shirt, Abetkov said. Police are asking anyone with information on this shooting or the suspect to call (510) 233-1214 or the anonymous tips line at (510) 232-TIPS.
