EL CERRITO, CA – We know every town has its fair share of hidden gems, so what sets El Cerrito apart from the rest? For a lot of people, it’s the food and the restaurants that have been the focal point of many memories.

We asked on Facebook, and Patch Readers told us which gems shine brightest in their neighborhoods.

Readers responded and let us know which local hotspots deserve national attention. We found that El Cerrito readers would like to have a few more prominent restaurants. Tighten your bibs, and take a look at this list of favored places:

• "Until the City Council makes El Cerrito an appealing place for small and big businesses to thrive, I can't think of a place. The Junket and Fat Apple's deserve some recognition."

• "El Mono is the only place I like at the moment."

• "National recognition? EC needs a lot of fixing up to make it nationally worthy. Needs a vibe to draw some more choices into the ball game. I would say El Mono, Elevation 66, Bahn Mi Ba Le."

OpenTable recently released their list of “100 Hottest Restaurants in America for 2016.”

The website determines its “best of” list by analyzing more than 5 million diner reviews of over 20,000 restaurants nationwide.

Even though the competition was stiff, we still think your favorite greasy spoons deserve their time in the spotlight.
