Police Bomb Squad Disposed of Homemade Pipe Bomb Found at Lone Tree Point

Walnut Creek Police assisted the East Bay Regional Park District Police with the disposal.

SAN PABLO, CA — The Walnut Creek Police Bomb Squad safely disposed of a homemade pipe bomb discovered by a visitor at the San Pablo Regional Shoreline Tuesday, police officials said.

The bomb was found partially buried on a bluff at Lone Tree Point around 2 p.m. According to a statement from the East Bay Regional Park District, police evacuated the area before rendering the bomb safe. The device appeared to have been there for quite some time, according to officials.

“Explosives periodically wash up at shoreline parks along the Carquinez Strait, usually leftover from military operations in the area,” park district officials said. “This bomb does not appear related to the military.”
