Police Release Footage Capturing Argument that Occurred Before Shootout

Police have not yet determined who the suspects are or whether there were any victims in the shooting.

Police released surveillance footage Thursday of an argument that occurred before a mysterious shootout between two vehicles Saturday afternoon in El Cerrito. Police have not yet determined who the suspects are or whether there were any victims in the shooting, which was reported at 4:13 p.m. Saturday on southbound San Pablo Avenue near Tehama Avenue.

The occupants of the two vehicles began to exchange gunfire after a verbal argument, according to witnesses. Responding officers did not find suspects or victims, but located 13 shell casings at the scene. No uninvolved persons, buildings or vehicles were struck by the gunfire, police said. Surveillance footage from a nearby business captured two vehicles traveling south on San Pablo Avenue, police said, and the sound of a verbal exchange. Seconds later, the vehicles can be seen driving off side-by-side and gunfire can be heard.

Witnesses describe the involved vehicles as both being American made silver and white sedans, police said. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact El Cerrito police at (510) 215-4400.
