Police Seeking SUV Motorist After Pursuit
The driver of the black vehicle fled from cops and drove the wrong way on Highway 4.

Police in Hercules are seeking the driver of a vehicle who escaped after driving recklessly during a pursuit early Saturday.
At about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a Hercules police officer was conducting a security check at the Creekside Shopping Center in the 1500 block of Sycamore Avenue when he noticed a black 1990s model SUV with tinted windows parked near the garden center of Home Depot.
Police said the SUV suddenly drove away and the officer noticed a white paper plate with unknown writing covering the rear license plate.

The SUV drove through a traffic signal and failed to stop when the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, according to police. Police said the vehicle accelerated to speeds of about 50 mph while driving north on Willow Avenue.
The SUV then went on eastbound state Highway 4, drove over an embankment and started driving the wrong way on the highway, up an Interstate Highway 80 off-ramp and onto Sycamore Avenue, police said.

Officers terminated the pursuit because the SUV was driving into oncoming traffic and almost collided with several vehicles exiting the freeway, police said. The vehicle was seen driving over an embankment and onto eastbound Highway 80, but officers were not able to locate it after that, police said.
