Residents Invited to Opening of Ohlone Gardens in El Cerrito

Mixed-use project near transit and services provides quality, sustainably built affordable apartment homes

On Wednesday, October 28, 2015 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Resources for Community Development (RCD) hosts the grand opening of new affordable housing apartments in El Cerrito. Ohlone Gardens is a 4-story, mixed-use affordable housing development with 57 units of housing and 3,189 square feet of commercial space for a retail or community-serving tenant.

The celebration is open to residents and the public and tours will be available. Ohlone Gardens is located at 6495 Portola Drive, El Cerrito, adjacent to the Ohlone Greenway and one block east of San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito’s Midtown area.

RCD Executive Director Dan Sawislak notes that RCD received over 1,200 applications for the 57 rental units.

“People are excited by the opportunity to live in very nice housing in a great neighborhood in El Cerrito. It’s disappointing to turn away so many who need that same opportunity. We hope that the event will inspire guests to help advocate for more affordable homes to meet this most basic need.”
