Richmond Man Sentenced To 196 Years In Prison After Violent Rape Conviction

In December 2022, Mark Hinton beat, raped and threatened a homeless woman who believed the two were dating, prosecutors said.

RICHMOND, CA — A Richmond man was sentenced to 196 years in prison last week for beating and raping two women while on parole for an earlier rape, prosecutors announced Friday.

Mark Hinton was convicted on 11 counts by a jury in September 2025 but his sentencing was delayed until Oct. 2 because he switched lawyers, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.

Evidence was presented at his trial that Hinton cut off his monitor in September 2022, then went to a Concord motel armed with knives to beat, strangle and sexually assault a woman he knew.

For that attack, the jury convicted Hinton of kidnapping to commit rape, forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, forcible sodomy and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Then, in December 2022, Hinton beat, raped and threatened a homeless woman who believed the two were dating, prosecutors said.

For those attacks, Hinton was convicted of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, domestic violence causing great bodily injury, criminal threats with a knife, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and false imprisonment.

At the time, Hinton was on parole for a 2008 rape, for which he was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
