As the Saint Mary’s High community looks forward to graduation on June 5, the Class of 1966 fifty-year reunion, and summer vacation, we wish all area schools’ graduates congratulations and best wishes!
Welcome to 2020: The newest Panthers, the Class of 2020, were formally welcomed to campus with their parents on a rainy Saturday, May 7 for the annual Freshman Class Orientation. The Class of 2020 hails from nearly three dozen area Catholic, public, and private schools. Years of Service Honors: Fifteen faculty and staff members were honored for their years of service, from five to twenty-five years, at the school’s annual Founder's Day liturgy on May 13. Several employees have been at the school for between twenty-five and forty years. Music Concerts: The public is invited to two year-end music concerts in the school auditorium, May 26 and 27, at 7:00 p.m. Watch the school web site for details.
TCAL Track & Field League Championships, Hercules High, May 12: Congratulations to Saint Mary’s Track & Field team for a great showing in the recent TCAL League Championships. Panther men took first place in Varsity Shotput, 110m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles, Long Jump, and Discus, and Panther women took Varsity 400m and 800m, High Jump, 300m Hurdles, Long Jump, 4x400 Relay, and Triple Jump. New Coach: Mr. Chris Toler has been named the new Panther Varsity Girls' Basketball Head Coach. Toler has coached at Saint Mary's for two years, and previously at Napa Valley College and Rodriguez High School in Fairfield. He served eight years in the United States Air Force and is currently a Captain with the Contra Costa Fire Protection District. Prom Time: Juniors and seniors enjoyed prom night aboard the Commodore Cruises Cabernet Sauvignon that set sail from Alameda on May 14 for dinner, dancing, casino games, and sightseeing on San Francisco Bay.
Debate Team Nationals: Good luck this Memorial Day weekend to Saint Mary’s Speech & Debate Team members heading to Sacramento for the National Catholic Forensic League’s Grand National Tournament of Catholic Schools at Sacramento State University and McClatchy High School. Letters of Thanks: In honor of Armed Forces Day on May 21, students penned letters of thanks and support to service members as a special project of the school’s Service Club. A current Saint Mary’s staff member serves in the Army National Guard; she was on active duty during last summer’s Lake County wildfires.
SAVE THE DATE – GOLF TOURNAMENT: Saint Mary’s annual Golf Tournament fundraiser for tuition assistance will take place Monday, September 12 at the Mira Vista Golf and Country Club in El Cerrito. $225 entry fee includes lunch, golf, post-tournament reception, and tee prize golf shirt. Tee signs and sponsorships available.
