San Pablo Man Critically Injured in Thursday Night Shooting

The suspect was last seen heading south on South 22nd Street toward Cutting Boulevard in a silver four-door sedan.

A San Pablo man was critically wounded in a shooting after an argument in Richmond on Thursday night, a police lieutenant said today. Officers responded around 10 p.m. to multiple activations of the city’s ShotSpotter gunshot detection system near the 2200 block of Ohio Avenue, where they found a 43-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso, Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill said.

The man was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical condition this morning, Hill said. He said witnesses described seeing a silver four-door sedan driving in the area where the victim was walking. A man who was a passenger in the car got out and exchanged heated words with the victim before shooting him, Hill said.

The suspect got back in the car, which was last seen heading south on South 22nd Street toward Cutting Boulevard. Police have not made any arrests. Violence in Richmond has been on decline in recent years, with only nine murders so far this year and 16 last year, but this week has been particularly violent with two fatal shootings reported.
