Shooting Victim Found Near Grocery Outlet, El Cerrito Police Seeking Suspects

On Thursday October 2nd at approximately 8:10 hours, Richmond Police Dispatch received a call of one gunshot heard in the area of the 2000 block of Key Blvd. A Richmond Police officer who was near San Pablo Ave. also heard one gun shot. Officers began heading toward the area and at approximately 2013 hours, a gunshot victim was found in front of the Grocery Outlet located at 12010 San Pablo Ave. As officers developed information about the crime, it was quickly discovered the shooting occurred near the intersection of Key Blvd. and Humboldt Ave. in El Cerrito.
El Cerrito officers responded to the area of Key and Humboldt and began an area search for evidence and additional victims. A second victim was found near the Baxter Creek area and the BART Path. As officers interviewed the two victims, it was learned a robbery with a handgun had taken place on Key Blvd. Both victims were walking from the BART Path area, several feet apart. The victims do not know each other. During the robbery, one victim began to fight with the two suspects and was subsequently shot in the leg. He was taken to an area hospital and treated for his wound which does not appear to be life threatening. The second victim was beaten/punched and his personal property stolen during the robbery.
There were at least two suspects in this case and they were described as mixed race adult males, approximately 5’7” to 5’10” with a medium build. At least one suspect possessed and used a firearm in the commission of this crime. Both suspects ran east and entered a dark, medium size vehicle and fled the scene. The scene was processed for evidence by the ECPD.
