Talk About Traditional Landscape Painting

The February 8th program of the El Cerrito Art Assn. features oil painter Mark Monsarrat, who paints traditional landscapes in the Craftsman style, inspired by 19th-century romantic and early 20th-century California Impressionists. He works both on location and in his San Francisco studio, and has received various awards in art shows and Bay Area plein air competitions.

His art education includes a BFA from the California College of the Arts, MFA from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, as well as plein air workshops with noted artists.

He also conducts his own classes, demonstrations and workshops.

Mark will re-create the plein-air experience, working from a photo and illustrating his tonal-colorist approach with a limited palette,. He will create a new painting, demonstrating the process from site selection and thumbnail sketch, through basic painting and final completion.
