Volunteer Tutors Needed
Make a difference in someone's life. LEAP is seeking volunteers to tutor students one-to-one in adult literacy and GED preparation.
Make a powerful positive difference in another person’s life. Volunteers are needed to tutor, teach, and mentor adult students. LEAP, the Richmond Library’s adult literacy program, provides vital educational services to adults who want to improve their reading and writing skills. The program matches volunteer tutors one-to-one with adult learners. The tutoring pairs focus on the student’s individual learning goals, and in the process, develop a relationship that makes a positive impact on the volunteer, the student, and the community.
As LEAP serves the community, we recognize that volunteers are one of our most vital and powerful resources. We are currently looking for volunteers to perform a variety of roles including as one-to-one tutors, teaching assistants, ESL instructors, and computer learning coaches. LEAP has both daytime and evening opportunities available. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and have a high school diploma (or equivalent). Because we do believe that success is based on building a relationship, we ask for a minimum of a 6-month commitment for at least 4 hours a week. In addition, successful volunteers are flexible, dedicated, and empathetic to the students.
Volunteering for LEAP is a great way to learn new skills, affect positive change, and have fun.
