When did you open up here in Kensington? The opening date was June 18. It was a Saturday. We had our opening and then we had two classes that morning, which did pretty well.
What brought you into fitness from the beginning? I was always into fitness. I ran track and I did high jump when I was younger. My husband was also an athlete. We met in college; he’s a football player and a basketball player. My father was a boxer, he played football and he was a wrestler. My mother was a dancer. It’s in my genes.

I went to college and worked but then I decided I wanted to leave my job, which my husband was supportive of, and I went into business.
Are you brutal? I would say we’re pretty brutal. If you look at our class descriptions they basically tell a great deal of what we do here.
Like the ninja boot camp? The monkey ninja bootcamp: It’s exhausting, but a very fun, creative class, and our metabolic surge class is pretty intense as well. But we also have the light side: we have the pilates bootcamp, we have power yoga, we have slow flow yoga on Saturdays and yoga tune-up. We have the TRX classes, which you can modify, they don't have to be as intense, but it is a pretty good workout. That’s one of my favorite classes that I enjoy teaching.
What type of clientele are you getting so far? We actually are getting all types. We’re getting mostly women, though; we haven’t gotten the men in here yet, but we would like to get the men in here, especially on the TRX power. I think they would really enjoy that class because it’s mostly body weight exercises that most men are not used to doing. They’re usually used to lifting weights. They think they’re all, “Hraaaar,” manly lifting weights, but once they get on the TRX then we (snaps her fingers) whip them into shape pretty good.
Kristin (Rios) is pretty brutal — she’s my business partner. She teaches the monkey ninja bootcamp on Saturdays. Her boot camp is pretty awesome; she’s very creative and uses a lot of your own body weight for the classes. She’s a great person and business partner; I’m glad that I have her. She was also a gymnast; she played tennis and softball. She was always an athlete as well and has been in the fitness business a while, teaching classes and training.
What do you do for fun? We do a lot of fitness things for fun but I really love spending time with my wonderful husband and my daughter. I like relaxing in my downtime because I’m so overwhelmingly busy and physically active a lot.
