"The Wild Prayer of Longing", free lecture by Dr. Jeanne Foster

Free Public Lecture...Sunday, September 20th, 10:00am

Dr. Jeanne Foster will speak on The Wild Prayer of Longing, how poetry can be the prayer and answer the prayer of longing to know that our world is not “simply inane,” that it’s washed through and through with meaning, without resort to what Yeats called the old “garment of religion.” Plus, she’ll be reading a few of her own poems.

Dr. Jeanne Foster is professor of Literature and Creative Writing at Saint Mary’s College. Her books include A Music of Grace: The Sacred in Contemporary American Poetry; Appetite: Food as Metaphor; A Blessing of Safe Travel: winner of the Quarterly Review of Literature Poetry Award; and Goodbye, Silver Sister: poems published in the Northwestern University Press Poetry Series in 2015.

Please join us in the Fireside Room at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Berkeley, located at 1 Lawson Road (above the Arlington at Moeser Lane).

Barbara Rockhold, Personal Theology Chair
