Woman Arrested After Grabbing Cash from Gas Station, Slapping Attendant

A off-duty officer witnessed the incident on Monday night and followed the suspect until officers arrived.

A 40-year-old Oakland woman was arrested in El Cerrito on Monday after allegedly slapping a gas station clerk and making off with cash from the business, according to police.

Police said the arrest happened after an off-duty police officer noticed an employee at the Chevron gas station at 11319 San Pablo Ave. trying to stop a woman from leaving the station’s pump area. The woman then slapped the clerk in the face and ran, heading west on Potrero Avenue, police said.

The off-duty officer trailed the woman until police arrived to detain her. Police said the clerk tried to stop the woman after she grabbed $200 in cash from the gas station counter as it was being counted.
