Woman, Boyfriend Plead No Content in 2014 Killing of Estranged Husband
The pair are scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 29, when it's expected that the victim's family will make statements.

A mother of three and her boyfriend accepted plea deals in a Martinez courtroom today, together admitting to fatally shooting her estranged husband in San Pablo in 2014. Alicia Ortez, 36, of Richmond, faces a six-year prison sentence after pleading no contest to a felony charge of voluntary manslaughter for killing 43-year-old Oscar Anguiano, prosecutors said.
Ortez’s boyfriend, 32-year-old Amador Ortiz, pleaded no contest to the same charge with an added firearm enhancement, as well as kidnapping, unlawful taking of a vehicle and methamphetamine possession charges. Prosecutors said he faces 24 years in state prison. According to prosecutors, Ortiz stole a car and armed himself with a shotgun on June 9, 2014, and drove with Ortez to her estranged husband’s home in San Pablo.
Ortez was battling over custody of her children with the victim. The children were also living at that San Pablo residence in the 1600 block of 16th Street, prosecutors said. Ortiz shot and killed Anguiano around 11 p.m. that day at the home and took the children, according to police and prosecutors.

The California Highway Patrol issued a statewide Amber Alert for the children and police later located them with Ortiz at a home in Richmond. Anguiano had full custody of the children at the time of his murder because of Ortez’s reported substance abuse issues, prosecutors said. Ortez and Ortiz are scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 29, when it’s expected that the victim’s family will make statements.
