SACRAMENTO, CA – Secretary of State Dr. Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D. released today the final Report of Registration ahead of the September 14, 2021 Gubernatorial Recall. As of August 30, 2021, 22,057,154 Californians are registered to vote, which is 88.87 percent of eligible Californians. This is an increase in voter registration of 10.71 percent compared to the 78.16 percent of voters registered by the last 15-Day Report of Registration before the last gubernatorial election in 2018.

“Just days away from the first recall election in nearly 20 years, it's only fitting we maintain record voter registration rates," Secretary Weber said. “Voter registration signals a healthy democracy, and my goal during this election cycle was to continue to remove barriers that might prevent voters from being able to exercise their most fundamental democratic right."

Conditional Voter Registration

“For voters who missed the online voter registration deadline, remember, it's not too late to participate in the Gubernatorial Recall Election. California created "Same Day Voter Registration" as a safety net, so voters could register to vote all the way up to Election Day and cast a ballot on the same day -- provisionally,” Secretary Weber said.
