CALIFORNIA — No one won the jackpot in Wednesday night's Powerball drawing but two tickets in Northern California matched the first five numbers. Each ticket is worth $1,220,123.
The tickets were purchased in Elk Grove and Vacaville. The winning numbers are:
In addition to the million dollar winners, 14 tickets are worth $17,500, 291 may be cashed-in for $420, and another 745 are valued at $170. Thousands more California tickets won smaller prizes of $4 to $7.
The $1,220,123 tickets were sold at Walmart on Elk Grove Boulevard in Elk Grove and Cigarettes 4 Discount on Alamo Drive in Vacaville.
The jackpot for Saturday night's drawing is projected to be $1.4 billion.
This marks the first time in Powerball game history that back-to-back jackpot cycles have generated billion-dollar grand prizes. The Powerball jackpot was previously won on July 19 in California, when a single ticket won a jackpot worth $1.08 billion. Since then, there have been 33 consecutive drawings without a grand prize winner.
Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Powerball numbers are drawn three times a week — at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Florida Lottery studio in Tallahassee.
