Benefit Golf Tournament for local resident Mark Watson, June 22

I golfed with Mark a few years ago when we were members of the Sun Grove Golf Club. Don't know him well, but wanted to pass this along that I saw in the Elk Grove Citizen.

Mark Watson was struck by a vehicle while bicycling on May 5. He was hit while traveling southbound on Waterman Road between Bond Road and Elk Grove Boulevard. Mark suffered C-5 spinal injury and will never walk or play golf again. Mark is now at the UC Davis Medical Center where he is undergoing rehab and PT training. Mark is an avid, lifelong golfer and was a 5.8 index, which is really good. Some of Mark’s golfing friends are putting together a small nine-hole benefit tournament for Mark on Saturday, June 22, teeing off at 9 a.m. at the Emerald Lakes Golf Course. The entry fee is $50 which includes golf and lunch. There will be skills features during the tournament and a variety of raffles afterwards.

Mark and his wife, Bobbie have to look at ways to make their home more accessible and determine the best type of transportation they will need for Mark’s future care. The C-5 injury is severe, leaving Mark with use of his head, neck, and shoulders, but with very limited use of his arms, hands, and wrists.

For more information on how you can get involved please contact long-time friend and golfing partner, Ray Ashby. Ray is a board member at the Emerald Lakes Men’s Golf Club, and the president and tournament director of the Dry Creek Men’s Club. Ray can be reached at (916) 685-8030 or by at email at pamrayashby@frontiernet.net.
