Cake Decorating for Newbies, Thanks Kathy!

Learning the Art of Cake Decorating

None of us had ever decorated a cake before, but our Spanish Chaperone really wanted to do it. There is apparently no big "Cake Boss" thing going on in Spain but she thought it may be coming and really wanted to learn it.

So, I called my friend Kathy Burks - The Cake Lady Extraordinaire and asked her if she was interested in teaching Virginia her art. She said absolutely! She said - bring them all! OMG, really?

Well there were about 20 of us that went up and she made about 25 - 2 layer cakes, iced between the layers and ordered 10 pizzas, sodas, waters and salad and invited us to her kitchen up in Placerville.

The drive was lovely, the views breathtaking, but 25 cakes ready to decorate? Wow! (See pic)  While the men played pool or smoked cigars on the balcony, the women and girls + 1 boy from Spain - decorated cakes. It would be his 18th birthday the next day and his host family was giving him a party. I don't know if he wanted to be sure he had the perfect cake, OR if he wanted to be around ALL those girls :-)

It was a lovely day for all and we all went home with 2 cakes and pride in our creative works of art. (See all the pics)
