Where does a kid keep playing music?

A personal request for musical options for a 13-year-old saxophone and clarinet player.

A question for Elk Grove Patch readers:

My incredibly charming 13-year-old son played band for the last two years at Joseph Kerr Middle School—saxophone and clarinet.  He signed up to do marching band and has decided he doesn't want to do it.  I wish he wouldn't do drop out, but that's what it looks like he's going to do, even though he wants to keep playing both the saxophone and clarinet.  The demands and dynamic of marching band are different than what he enjoyed about band in middle school.

So, my question is this:  Other than lessons and high school marching band, which don't really include the social aspect and challenge of playing with others, are there any options in Elk Grove for a 13-year-old who is still learning to play the saxophone and clarinet to keep playing?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I'd love to see my son continue to grow in this area and I know he wants to as well.
