The public is invited to attend the July 8 Annual Meeting of the Central Valley Rails to Trails Foundation.
We are pleased to have Ben Tripousis, a representative of the High
Speed Rail Authority, who will present an update on the Sacramento to
Merced segment of the project.
As the Northern California Regional Director, Ben is responsible
for the development of the California High Speed Rail project from the Bay Area to the Central Valley. This includes the electrification of
the Caltrain Peninsula Corridor project, the San Jose to Merced project
segment, and the future High Speed Train connection to Sacramento. In
addition, Ben oversees the development of Regional Rail Improvements to
the Capitol Corridor, Altamont Commuter Express and the San Joaquin
Regional Rail systems.

The Central CA Traction Rail Corridor (CCT), which runs from the
Power Inn area through the communities of Vineyard, Sheldon/East Elk
Grove, Wilton, Herald, Acampo and Lodi, was selected in 2008 as the
back-up corridor for the Sacramento to Stockton High Speed Rail
Project. Residents from the impacted communities, along with the
Central Valley Rails to Trails Foundation, have notified the High Speed
Rail Authority that the 27 mile section of the CCT would better serve
the community as a trail.
This meeting will provide an opportunity for local residents to
receive accurate information on the status of the project, including a
timeline for environmental studies. We can also learn the best time for
those concerned to express their views in order to have them included
in official analyses of community impact.
