Albiani served as president of the Sacramento Association of Realtors and Director of the California Association of Realtors and was selected as the Sacramento Association of Realtors 1999 Realtor of the Year. Albiani is a veteran and served 22 years in the Army National Guard. He continues to be an active fundraiser for various notable organizations throughout the Sacramento region.
The nomination was submitted by community members during the District solicitation for recommendations. The nomination received unanimous support by community members during a virtual public meeting of the District’s Naming Committee held last month.
Warren and Pat Weaver, local Elk Grove residents and members of the Elk Grove Lions Club and Elk Grove Optimist Club, expressed their support at the meeting.
“Gil Albiani has always supported the Elk Grove community and has a very long record of commitment to our community,” they said. “He is very deserving of this honor.”
Wednesday night, the Board voted 4-0 in favor of the Naming Committee recommendation. Albiani abstained from the vote.
The recreation center, located at 8830 Sharkey Ave., formerly served as the Senior Center of Elk Grove. The Senior Center moved to its new home on Civic Center Drive in January.
The Gil Albiani Recreation Center will serve as a community hub for future programs, events and gatherings. The center is scheduled for minor construction and upgrades to occur in the upcoming months, with an official rededication event to be scheduled in the future.
